Happy Birthday To Nelly

Nelly -- the entrepreneur, songwriter, actor, and one of the few hip hop artists with a rare RIAA diamond certified record to his name -- turns 42 today.

Born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., Nelly began his lengthy career in hip hop in 1993 as part of one of the biggest hip hop acts to come out of St. Louis, the St. Lunatics. While still an active member of the St. Lunatics, Nelly achieved mainstream success solo, most notably through his 2000 solo debut Country Grammar, which spawned the hit single "Ride Wit Me" and sold over ten million copies, earning the St.Louis rapper a rare RIAA diamond record. Run the Jewels announce world tour

El-P and Killer Mike are almost ready to release the highly anticipated Run the Jewels 3, but that's not all RTJ fans have to look forward to -- the group will also be embarking on a world tour sometime early next year.

Spotlight Artist: Mikey D

Gather round fellow Hip-hop fans and enthusiasts, this week's Spotlight Title manifests in the form of the Queens rap urban legend otherwise known as Mikey D.

The story begins in 1982 when the MC spent his younger years making a name for himself through local rap battles. As the tale goes, Mikey D would often be seen engaged in lyrical skirmishes against formidable rappers, including fellow Queens MC, and former school mate, LL Cool J. “We just bugged out at how much we sounded alike,” reminisces Mikey D, “Instead of battling, we just rocked together.”

Although diminutive in stature, Wheelchair Sports Camp’s (WSC) sole female MC Kalyn Heffernan is a mighty lyrical force. Armed with a dream, pen and voracious appetite for songwriting, rhyme spitting, and mic rocking, the Denver-based artist has cultivated a career in Hip Hop that is slowly but surely beginning to pay off.
