Ice-T, Treach & Chuck D Join Dozens Of MCs For “Spit Or Quit” Tribute To DJ Kay Slay

DJ Kay Slay died unexpectedly in 2022, leaving the Hip-Hop community in a state of shock. At the time of his passing, his friends and family vowed to carry on his legacy.

Legendary New York City promoter Van Silk is among those people. Last week, Van Silk released the first volume of “Spit or Quit,” a nearly 50-minute exposé of some of the best MCs in the business. From Ice-T and Naughty By Nature’s Treach to Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Digital Underground’s Money B, there’s no shortage of talent displayed throughout the video.

Other contributions come from fashion designer April Walker, Def Jam Recordings first publicist, Bill Adler, Video Music Box co-founder Ralph McDaniels and The Furious Five’s Melle Mel.

Kid Capri Reveals M.O.P. Affiliate Foxx Has Died: DJ Premier, Fat Joe, Prince Po & More React

Kid Capri shared a somber message with his Instagram followers on Saturday (August 4), revealing M.O.P. affiliate Foxx had died.

The veteran New York City DJ mentioned he’d just visited her at the hospital and she had decided to be removed from life support on Friday (August 2), indicating she’d lost her 15-year battle with an autoimmune disease called scleroderma. She was roughly 55 years old.

KRS-One To Host "Hip Hop 51: Walk This Way March" In August

KRS-One will host a powerful peace initiative on Hip-Hop's 51st birthday, August 11. Dubbed the "Hip-Hop 51: Walk This Way March," the event is intended to promote urban health and non-violent conflict resolution. 

The march begins at the birthplace of Hip-Hop, 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, where KRS-One and other leaders will host a private press conference and deliver opening remarks. After the press conference, he and other leaders will convene at Cedar Park to begin the march at 10 a.m. ET.

Participants are encouraged to check in at Cedar Park between 8-10 a.m. to receive their credentials and all will move from Cedar Park to Crotona Park, which is also in the Bronx. Closing remarks take place at 12 p.m. ET.

Lauryn Hill Addresses Sudden North American Tour Cancelation

Lauryn Hill canceled the North American leg of the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill Anniversary Tour this week, just days before it was to begin. Ticketholders posted screenshots of a message they received from Live Nation stating simply, “Your event has been canceled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon.”

Hill offered no explanation for the last minute decision—until now. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (August 7), Hill attributed the cancelation to stories written about her. In the process, she assured her international fans the show would go on.
