Hip Hop Public Health Hosts DMC, Chuck D, Doug E. Fresh + More For Annual Gala

Hip Hop Public Health held its Remixing Public Health Gala at the Harvard Club in New York City on Tuesday (October 25) with special guests Chuck D, Ashanti, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Cheryl "Salt" James and host Doug E. Fresh.

The event celebrated the work of HHPH founder Dr. Jide Williams, chief of staff and professor of neurology at Columbia University, as well as Joni Holifield, who was honored with a HHPH award for her work with the nonprofit HeartSmilesMD. Holifield founded the organization following the 2015 Freddie Gray riots in Baltimore. 

Throughout the evening, Chuck D, Ashanti, DMC and the rest of the panel discussed mental health and the growing violence in the Hip Hop community.

Stic made the announcement while speaking to Green Matters in a recent interview. The veteran MC—who, along with rhyming partner M-1, penned the enduring Hip Hop anthem "Hip Hop" in 2000, also released a book called "The 5 Principles: A Revolutionary Path to Health, Inner Wealth, and Knowledge of Self," which centers on his self-described "healthy gangsta lifestyle." Q-Tip Shows Support For Jewish Community Amid Kanye West Controversy

A Tribe Called Quest luminary Q-Tip is joining a growing number of celebrities who are standing up for the Jewish community following Kanye West's harmful rhetoric. On Monday (October 24), Q-Tip shared an Instagram post that read simply: "I support my Jewish friends and the Jewish people." It's catching the attention of famed talent manager Guy Oseary, West's ex-wife Kim Kardashian and his former mother-in-law Kris Jenner, among many others. 

West has put a giant target on his back since spewing several antisemitic comments across social media and in multiple interviews earlier this month. Consequently, JP Morgan, the CAA, Balenciaga and Johnny Depp's former attorney Camille Vasquez are among those who've cut ties with Ye.

Jewish Rapper Kosha Dillz Schools Kanye West With "Death Con 3 (Ye Diss)"

As the moniker suggests, Kosha Dillz is about as Jewish as it gets. So naturally, when the New York City-based rapper and current member of "Wild 'N Out" caught wind of Kanye West's recent anti-Semitic rants on Twitter and in subsequent interviews, it didn't feel right to turn a blind eye. 

On Friday (October 21), Kosha Dillz dropped a video for "Death Con 3," a reference to one of West's inflammatory tweets. (If you don't know what we're talking about it, Google it.) Shot in Crown Heights, the visual employs a 15-foot dreidel to display various Jewish references while featuring Jews of Color throughout the video.

Mt. Westmore Drops "Too Big" From Forthcoming "Snoop, Cube, 40, $hort" Album

Mt. Westmore—the West Coast rap supergroup comprised of Too $hort, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and E-40—has shared a new single and accompanying video for "Too Big" featuring P-Lo. The track is taken from their debut album "Snoop, Cube, 40, $hort" (originally titled "Bad MFs"), which arrived exclusively via the metaverse in August.
