De La Soul Legend Trugoy The Dove Has Died
De La Soul legend Trugoy The Dove, also known as Dave or Dave Jolicoeur, has died, AllHipHop confirmed. He was 54. Details are scarce, but Trugoy has been struggling with his health over the past few years. In 2018, Trugoy opened up about his battle with congestive heart failure in an Instagram video and admitted he was struggling with being sidelined.
“I’m ready just to get back to the stage,” he said at the time. “I miss that. I love traveling. I love being around my guys and I want that back.”
In 2020, he again sparked concern when he was briefly hospitalized. He appeared to be in good spirits, however, and was able to have an Instagram Live conversation with his De La Soul brethren, Posdnuos and Maseo.
It was expected to be a giant year for De La So

Snoop Dogg was noticeably absent from the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night (February 5). Even as his peers took the stage for the explosive Hip Hop 50 segment, the Doggfather was nowhere to be seen. While it's likely the ceremony simply conflicted with his appearance at the Pro Bowl, there could be another reason.
On Monday (February 6), Snoop Dogg shared an Instagram post that included a meme of the rappers with the most Grammys. As it noted, JAY-Z and Kanye West are tied with 24, Kendrick Lamar has 17, Eminem has 15 and Pharrell Williams has 13.
He wrote in the caption: "Snoop dogg. 20 nominations. 0 wins." Although Snoop paints a grim picture of his relationship with the Grammys, his mentor Dr. Dre could have a say in how he's honored next year. Amid the

Grandmaster Flash has released his second YouTube vignette, this time honoring four of Hip Hop's pillars. Released on Monday (February 6), just one day after Flash took the stage at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards alongside several of his fellow Hip Hop legends, the clip finds the pioneering turntablist talking about the contributions of JAY-Z, Drake, Eminem and Russell Simmons.
Speaking on JAY-Z, Flash talked about the Roc-A-Fella founder's journey from Sleeping Bag Records to Def Jam Recordings, where he ultimately became president of the label.
"I'm gonna say this," he says. "There are a lot of talented artists in the culture, but this gentlemen that I'm speaking about right now is probably one of the most smartest, one of the most brilliant as well as talented arti

The segment was introduced by seasoned Grammy host and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee LL COOL J with music provided by The Roots and Black Thought delivering a dedication.
Ice-T, (a mostly reunited) Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Lil Baby, De La Soul's Posdnuos, Queen Latifah, Busta Rhymes and Big Boi were among the dozens who took the stage, delivering an era-spanning performance that had the crowd jumping to its collective feet. Dee Barnes made history in the late 1980s and early '90s when she became the first woman—make that first Black woman—to host a music video show on a major network—Pump It Up! But in 1991, while attending an album release party in Hollywood, she was brutally assaulted by Dr. Dre. The incident would prove to have disastrous consequences, and slowly but surely doors started slamming in her face.
In March 2019, Barnes revealed she had fallen on unbelievably hard times and was officially homeless. Despite her aversion to it, Barnes reluctantly asked for Hip Hop's help and launched a GoFundMe. While it was a huge success, it was never quite enough to get her back on her feet.
But that all changed on Barnes' birthday. On January 31, Barnes shared some goo
