Snoop Dogg was noticeably absent from the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night (February 5). Even as his peers took the stage for the explosive Hip Hop 50 segment, the Doggfather was nowhere to be seen. While it's likely the ceremony simply conflicted with his appearance at the Pro Bowl, there could be another reason.
On Monday (February 6), Snoop Dogg shared an Instagram post that included a meme of the rappers with the most Grammys. As it noted, JAY-Z and Kanye West are tied with 24, Kendrick Lamar has 17, Eminem has 15 and Pharrell Williams has 13.
He wrote in the caption: "Snoop dogg. 20 nominations. 0 wins." Although Snoop paints a grim picture of his relationship with the Grammys, his mentor Dr. Dre could have a say in how he's honored next year. Amid the celebration of Music's Biggest Night, the Recording Academy announced the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. Of course, Dr. Dre was the first recipient (his name is literally on it), but it's entirely possible he'll make sure Snoop Dogg gets it at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in 2024.
As Snoop mentioned, he's been nominated 20 times (although the official Grammys website says 16). He was first nominated at the 36th Annual Awards in the Best Rap Performance By A Duo or Group category for "Nuthin' But A G Thang," his collaboration with Dr. Dre. His last nomination arrived at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards for his contribution to Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly, which was up for Album of the Year.
Despite his Grammy losses, Snoop Dogg is winning in nearly every other aspect of his life. As Kokane wrote in the comment section, "My ninja, you have become a global phenomenon. It’s nothing to a Boss Dogg." Layzie Bone added, "The most recognized and famous hip hop artist on the planet if not the most famous person. You the man big bro."
Snoop Dogg is currently the boss at Death Row Records, his former label. His latest album, Back On Death Row, arrived in 2022.
