Vocalist, innovator, turntablist, producer, and inventor are just a few titles that the mutli-talented Ruckazoid, DJ Shadow's latest signee to his Liquid Amber imprint, has earned throughout his 15 years in the business. Among his many accomplishments, his vocals have appeared on Ed Banger's Breakbot viral hits "Fantasy" and "You Should Know," Salva's "Freaky Dancing," and has produced singles with Theophilius London.
Ruckazoid has spent years perfecting his craft that started with a mastery of traditional scratching. Now, he has been recruited by the legendary turntablist DJ Shadow for his imprint Liquid Amber. 'Scratchgod 1' comes as the label's third release, following Shadow's 'Liquid Amber' EP and Bleep Bloop's '10 Watt Lazers' EP. "Shadow is a true vinyl connoisseur and has a deep understanding of music," says Ruckazoid, "He's probably the only one I would do this with." Given Ruckazoid's skills on the turntable, the DJ Shadow-fronted label will serve as a fitting home to the skilled turntablist.
The 'Scratchgod 1' EP is the first record to have a vocal performance with the music recorded live entirely from a turntable thanks to the Controller One, a music turntable that allows the user to play any record like notes, invented by Ruck himself and designed by Verstax in 2005. Each of the sounds that listeners hear throughout the EP are performed by scratching and manipulated sounds through the use of the turntable.
