REKS took the underground scene by storm with his debut LP, Along Came The Chosen (2001). The album featured production from a then eighteen year old Statik Selektah and the critically acclaimed LP was featured in the Source, XXL, Vibe, and REKS was named to URB Magazine's "Next 100". The album's single "Skills 101" reached #45 on the Billboard Singles chart, and put him on tours and doing shows with huge national acts.
REKS released his highly anticipated sophomore LP, Grey Hairs, in 2008 and the momentous album featured production from DJ Premier, Large Professor and ten-tracks from Statik Selektah and featured collaborations with Lil Fame of MOP, Consequence, Skyzoo, Termanology & Jon Hope. Grey Hairs lead to REKS being profiled by XXL Magazine in their "Show & Prove" section.
REKS' profile was imminently raised with the release of R.E.K.S. (2011) which included production from DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Alchemist, Sean C & LV, Nottz, Sha Money XL, Hi-Tek & Statik Selektah and guest appearances from Styles P, Freeway, Lil Fame & Termanology which was culminated by REKS winning the "Underground Music Award" for "Best Album" in 2011.
Still basking in the praise that his collaborative LP, Straight No Chaser, with Statik Selektah generated upon its release less then two-months ago, REKS returns to make his presence felt in two consecutive quarters with his latest full-length project Rebelutionary. Though he collaborated with Statik Selektah on Straight, No Chaser, REKS linked up with emerging producer Numonics for Rebelutionary.
While Rebelutionary is being released on the heels of the critically acclaimed Straight, No Chaser, there was never a second thought given to delaying it, as REKS explains, "Numonics is such a talent that I wasn't concerned about following up Straight, No Chaser so quickly because the recording process was so smooth and I knew it was necessary now. It was crazy that we could link up together on a project we both felt so passionate about; and one that is essential for today’s climate."
REKS continues to grow exponentially with each project and that growth is again apparent on Rebelutionary, as he tackles social and political issues. "REKS and I made Rebelutionary to express the strong social and political views we both share. Inspired by great leaders like Fred Hampton and Malcolm X, the album sheds light on issues that need to be touched on at this time. Whether it's institutionalized racism, or pointing out the hypocrisy of the establishment, REKS paints a vivid picture of the world we live in with this project. I feel blessed to have worked with such a strong and emerging voice in Hip-Hop and his immense talent shines throughout this project" opines Numonics. Likewise, REKS also laments, "The flow of the album is superb in my opinion. The idea was to give today's youth an intelligent piece of work that didn't come off preachy or dated. I know we succeeded in doing so."
