Mugs + Pockets—a Hip Hop duo comprised of Scarlet Monk (Mugs) and Swamburger (Pockets)—released their debut album, the aptly titled "The Adventures of Mugs + Pockets," via Alpha Pup earlier this month. Boasting 17 tracks, the project features a posthumous verse from Blackalicious MC Gift Of Gab, who passed away in June 2021. Additional contributions come from Jurassic 5's unforgettable baritone Chali2na on the songs "Welcome To The MAP Universe (Intro)," "MAP (Outro)" and "Green Meadows" featuring Abstract Rude (produced by Monk and DiViNCi).
"'The Adventures Of Mugs and Pockets' is a journey of dynamic song, quantum chemistry, and uncurbed beats with strong replay value," Swamburger tells RAPstation. "It covers a lot of ground for music lovers. I can almost feel the sky open, making way for Gift Of Gab's verse on 'Feats of Fury.'"
Swamburger, hailed an Orlando Hip Hop legend, recently made a geographical leap to Seattle after years of living in Florida for the sole purpose of pursuing his Mugs + Pockets adventures. But he's already made an indelible mark on Hip Hop culture. In 2002, he and producer DiViNCi formed the group Solillaquists of Sound alongside Alexandrah Sarton and Tonya Combs. They dropped five studio albums as a crew, including 2006's "As If We Existed." Their last album, "The 4th Wall: Part 2," was released in 2013.
As for Scarlet Monk, the classically trained vocalist honed her skills in Chicago, performing and recording in the underground Hip Hop and downtempo scenes. Find "Feats Of Fury" with Gab below and the full album here.
