Mobb Deep's Prodigy drops new track to promote new Black Panther comic

Prodigy, one half of classic hip hop duo Mobb Deep, has released a new track, "Beast With It." The new song ties into the story and themes of Marvel's current run of The Black Panther comic book.

"Beast With It" also features Brooklyn musician Mark the Beast. The dubstep influenced track is the second song to be used by Marvel as a soundtrack for the Black Panther comic's current "A Nation Under Our Feet" story arc, which is being written award winning journalist, author, and social activist Ta-Nehisi Coates. The first song in the series was created by the New York City based supergroup Run the Jewels.

The Black Panther character was created in 1966 by  Fantastic 4 and X-Men creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (predating the formation of the political party of the same name,) and was the first black superhero to appear in mainstream American comics. In the years since his creation, The Black Panther has come to be regarded by many critics as a symbol of black empowerment and a positive role model. The character made his first appearance on film in this year's Captain America: Civil War, where he was portrayed by Chadwick Boseman, and will be receiving his own solo movie in 2018, which will be directed by Fruitvale Station and Creed director Ryan Coogler.

Mobb Deep is currently on tour as part of this summer's The Art of Rap Festival, which also features Ice T, Public Enemy, Kurtis Blow, and many more.
