"Laffy Taffy" rapper Shawty Lo dead after hit and run

Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo, a.k.a. Carlos Walker, lost his life tragically last night at the age of 40 after a devastating hit and run car accident early this morning.

Shawty Lo was best known as one of the founding members of hip hop group DL4, who scored a number one hit with their 2005 single "Laffy Taffy."   In addition to his work with DL4, Shawty Lo scored a solo gold-selling single with "Dey Know." In 2008, he was named "Rookie of the Year" at the BET Hip Hop Awards. He appeared on the Billboard charts again with Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy in 2009 on the hit single "Gucci Bandanna." His second solo album, entitled Still Got Units, was scheduled to come out sometime later this year.

Shawty was killed in a hit and run accident on Atlanta's Interstate 285 in the early hours of the morning. Lo was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while two passengers who were with him suffered non- life threatening injuries. The Atlanta police department has yet to release details about the vehicle that caused and fled the scene of the accident.

Lo's manager posted a heartfelt tribute to the rapper on his Instagram, saying "Shawty Lo was not just my artist he was my Brother He was My Friend. I have been Lo MGR for over 10 [years]. He was Loyal and he had my back when no one else did. I could count on him when I had no one else to turn to. We been thru so much together. If you knew Lo, then you know he was genuine. He was Real."
