Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, Tucson, Arizona-based Hip Hop trio, Jivin’ Scientists, was able to see its vision for a short film come to fruition. Titled “Thirsty,” the film functions as a music video for a three song montage highlighting the tracks “Crazy,” “Million Man Army” and “20 on the Chiefs” from the group’s 2015 album of the same name.
Albuquerque, New Mexico company Concept Flux, spearheaded by director Phillip Torres, created a visual story centering on a man’s surreal journey though moments of his heartbroken relationship with the woman of his dreams, who just left him. Using emerging technologies like projection mapping and depth sensors, along with cinematic imaging, “Thirsty” is a unique venture into unchartered territory. It crosses genres and styles to deliver something part sci-fi and part drama.
Comprised of James “Runt” Owens, producer Ryan “Phen” Troncoso and producer Nate Smith, Jivin’ Scientists have been steadily earning a loyal fanbase since the group’s 1996 inception. According to their Facebook page, "Jivin’ Scientists is not just music. It’s a philosophy. An idea. As scientists, we research the fundamental building blocksand framework of the art we produce. With that understanding, we apply pieces of ourselves in a creative way to Jive it. We believe that with hard work and honesty we can take the music we love to a new level. We are selflessly committed to producing something new and different while forever respecting the foundation on which it was built.”
