Hip hop artists react to #Brexit

Following Britain's historic decision to leave the European Union yesterday, a number of socially conscious hip hop artists posted their concerns to social media.

British citizens voted in favor of leaving the European Union yesterday, in a move that shocked many and is generally seen as a victory for isolationist Conservatism. The consequences of the vote to leave, generally referred to as "#Brexit" online, are already being felt: the value of the British pound experienced a historic plummet in value following the vote, and politicians from Scotland, which voted overwhelming to remain in the EU, are already discussing options to leave the now independent UK.

London-based rapper Konan voiced his dissatisfaction with the decision on Twitter, saying "Big up to all the racist that got us out the EU," referencing the idea that the decision to quit the European Union was, at the very least partially motivated by an isolationist desire to keep immigrants and foreign influence out of the UK.

British MC Wiley voiced similar sentiments, saying "England are on a Donald trump ting it seems."

Veteran producer and one-half of hip hop duo Run the Jewels El-P responded to the news by saying "Are we waking up to a global economic meltdown tomorrow? are motherfuckers screaming SELLL SELLLLLL? stay tuned!"
