Hip-hop Artists and Loved Ones Gather Over Kid Cali’s Passing

Well-known Los Angeles rapper Justin Lishey, better known as “Kid Cali”, passed away three days ago at about 9 pm, Saturday August 20th. Police and witnesses reported a tragic shooting incident, which occurred at a Granada Hills pool party, injuring two and taking Cali’s life.

According to friends and party-guests, the young rapper was engaged in a heated argument, after which led to the shooting. Cali was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where authorities verified his passing at age 30.

Since Cali’s death, several notable figures in the Hip-hop scene have expressed their condolences through social media. On twitter, Chris Brown tweeted “RIP KID CALI”, followed by “I still can’t believe the big bro kid Cali passed away… Still lost for words” tweeted by DJ Flippp. Snoop Dogg also expressed his farewells with a simple “rest well young g”.

Intimate pictures with Cali we’re also seen throughout Instagram, wherein artists, friends, and relatives wrote their goodbyes, as well as commemorating the rapper’s unforgettable personality. Kid Red knew Cali as “straight, genuine, always smiling, and just enjoying life”, while songwriter Kay Cola expressed a heartfelt “My heart is heavy this morning… rip and bless up… [Cali] believed in my music so much and [was] always kind [to] me”.

“Music is his life, that’s all he talked about”, expressed Cali’s close friend Dorthea DeVilla, who was present during the incident, “I lost a really, really, really good person in my life and it’s like… it really hasn’t registered… He’s a great person, he has a good heart and he’s going to be missed”. And it rings true when she adds, [Cali] will be missed, not just by me, but by everybody.
