While hosting the 2015 Soul Train Awards on Sunday night, Badu threw some pointed shade at the "Black Widow" singer.
During her monologue, Erykah Badu made fake phone calls to people and pretended to invite them to the show. One of the people included was Iggy Azalea. "Uh, yes? Who is this? Iggy Azalea?" Badu said. "Yeah, hey. Oh, no, no, no, no, you can come, 'cause what you doin' is definitely not rap." The audience promptly responded with a round of thundering applause.
Azalea caused a bit of an uproar back in May when she beat Drake, Nicki Minaj, and J. Cole to receive the award for Top Rap Artist at the Billboard Music Awards. Azalea also managed to snag the award for Top Rap Song. People were so upset by it that there was a petition to get the latter of the two awards revoked.
In 2014, Ms. Azalea beat out both Eminem and Drake at the American Music Awards for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Album, which people also weren't happy about.
Based on the comments made by Erykah Badu, it's clear she didn't agree with Azalea receiving those awards. Given how outspoken people are about their feelings for Azalea and her attempts at rap, it's only a matter of time before Azalea lashes out at Erykah Badu much like she did when Q-Tip attempted to educate her on the history of Hip-Hop/Rap music.
