Drake becomes the first artist of 2015 to go platinum

Drake's 'If You're Reading This It's Too Late' has become the first album released in 2015 to go platinum in the US. While classed as a mixtape, the album has been available commercially since February. The release includes guest appearances from Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, and Partynextdoor; and includes the songs 'Legend' and 'Energy'. Billboard reported that after selling 80,000 copies last week, it has now shifted to a little over 1 million units in the US. Celebrating the landmark achievement, Drake posted a picture of the album cover on Instagram alongside the caption: "Platinum off the tape. Views up next." Views is a reference to 'Views From The 6', the title of Drake's new album that is tentatively scheduled for release this year. Taylor Swift's '1989' has sold 1.463 million copies in the US already, but was released in October of last year. Drake is the second artist to sell 1 million copies of their album in 2015, but the first one to sell 1 million that was released this year. The major achievement follows Drake's dispute with Meek Mill, after Mill accused Drake of not writing his own lyrics. Since the dispute, both artists have responded with diss tracks, Drake's have been titled 'Charged Up' and 'Back to Back'; Meek Mill's diss track is titled 'Wanna Know'.
