On this day, veteran Hip-hop group Jungle Brothers released their memorable debut collective, Straight Out The Jungle.
Gaining prominence to feature the first non-Chicago Hip-house record to attain massive commercial, the album featured numerous iconic artists, such as De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and Black Sheep to name a few. The album was released under Warlock Records and peaked at high ratings off of several US charts, including the US Billboard Top R&B Albums.
Straight Out The Jungle showcased critically-acclaimed singles, such as “I House You” which became a tremendous hit in the industry, invading dance floors and clubs. The single also sparked an innovative movement which realigned the system between Hip-hop and Dance music genres.
In contrast to the latter track, “On The Run”, “What's Going On”, and “Because I Got It Like That” were recorded through beats straight off the records, as Afrika Baby Bam explained, “Looping it around by hand, eight bars at a time, until you had six minutes on tape, so there'd be enough music to do your rhymes before it ran out... I just had one copy of each record. That's the way most of the album was done.”
