On this day, Hip-hop witnessed it's great grand uncle come home after a two-year leave. Distributed under Priority and Capitol Records whilst brandishing his own Doggystyle Imprint, Paid The Cost To Be Da Boss, garnered commercial success, debuting at #12 on the Billboard 200, and eventually attaining platinum status, selling over one million copies nationwide.
The album is best known for spawning two hit-singles adding onto the Doggfather's critically-acclaimed repertoire. It's lead single “From the Chuuch to da Palace”, as well as it's second release, “Beautiful” both capture Snoop's iconic West Coast braggadocio linguistics, flowing ever-so smoothly as in earlier work.
“Homeboy, she taken, just move it/ I asked you nicely, don't make the Dogg lose it/ We just blow 'dro and keep the flow movin'/ In a '64, me and baby boo cruisin'” flows the veteran emcee on “Beautiful”, buttering up smoothly as the refrain rings in with Pharrell on vocals. The single itself was characterized as a sleeper hit, peaking at #6 off the Billboard Hot 100, as well as reaping acclaim in several other countries, such as Australia and New Zealand.
