Nowadays Pharrell is best known for his solo rapping and production work, but there's still plenty of fans out there for N.E.R.D., the funky, genre defying band that Williams has been performing with for almost two decades.
N.E.R.D. kicked off as a side project of The Neptunes, the hip hop duo comprised of Pharrell and multi talented musician Chad Hugo. The group released four albums in the ensuing decade, two of which earned RIAA gold certifications. The group's last album was released six years ago, and since then Pharrell has mostly performed solo.
That will all change soon, as Pharrel promised that N.E.R.D. will return eventually.
Williams attended ComplexCon in southern California last weekend, where he confirmed the existence of a fifth N.E.R.D. album. During a Q&A session, a fan asked about the possibility of more N.E.R.D. material, and Pharrell answered by confirming a fifth album. "The answer is yes. When it's time." Pharrell didn't elaborate on when that time would be, but given that the last N.E.R.D. album was released more than half a decade ago, most fans would probably agree that the time for a new album is long overdue.
Of course, Pharrell is very a busy man -- he recently released two singles off of the soundtrack for the film Hidden Figures, which he also produced, and he recently teamed up with Kid Cudi for the track "Surfin."
