Public Enemy's Chuck D -- a.k.a. Mistachuck -- is back, and he's teamed up with The Impossebulls to deliver with a politically charged, rage filled track that puts America's broken political system in its crosshairs.
Entitled "Bernie Got Berned," the new song points out the failures of America's two party system and the crimes committed by both major parties in their blind pursuit of power. Named after Vermont Senator and former presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, who lost the Democratic Primary earlier this year to Hillary Clinton despite a groundswell of support from many citizens who felt disenfranchised with the political process, "Bernie Got Berned" reminds listeners that when the choice comes down to picking the lesser of two evils, everyone loses.
Chuck D kicks the track off by posing the question "Who Gots the damn nerve To pick a winner? / Artillery ready to kill you and me / Who deliver Ing this Camp pain from the campaign?," and he's joined by Oakland rapper Jahi, whom Public Enemy fans will recognize as the voice behind PE 2.0. The two Public Enemies are also joined by Marcus J and C-Dog of the innovative hip hop group The Impossebulls, who deliver rage filled verses that should feel cathartic to the many who feel "berned" by this election.
