Meek Mill to stop rapping about violent topics

In the wake of recent events, Meek Mill has promised to stop using lyrics about "extreme violence."

The Philadelphia native says he will stop using lyrics that promote or glorify violence after the release of his upcoming mixtape, Dreamchasers 4.

"BY THE WAY ....AFTER DC4 I won't continue to rap about extreme violence!!!," Meek wrote in a post on Instagram. "!! But I will remain to let my people know in these terrible environments to adapt and survive at any cost because "US BLACK PEOPLE ARE STILL AT WAR WITH OURSELVES AND THE SYSTEM IN REAL LIFE!"

In the past Meek has posted pictures of himself posing with guns, and he has previously served jail time on gun possession charges. Meek says that's all behind him, saying "Once I found out I wasn't born to fail and just fall victim to a fake ass life that don't offer shit but a jail [or] death... I carry myself with extreme confidence and I know my value... "

Meek Mill's post about violence was immediately preceeded by a post supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, where he said "Don't let up. Stop focusing on non important shit and use your platform to bring attention to these foul ways some people believe we should be treated!"
