MC Eiht has announced a special 30th anniversary celebration of the film, Menace II Society. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (June 28), the Compton's Most Wanted rapper shared a flyer for the event with the caption, "GEAH." According to the flyer, the soirée takes place in Cleveland, Ohio on August 5 with special performances by MC Eiht and Spice 1. Tyrin Turner—who played "Caine" in the film—will serve as host.
Directed by The Hughes Brothers and released in 1993, Menace II Society starred Turner, Jada Pinkett and Larenz Tate. The plot revolves Turner and his attempts to escape the gang lifestyle of Los Angeles. The movie came with a Hip Hop-heavy soundtrack, which included MC Eiht's "Streiht Up Menace." The song poignantly summed up Eiht's experiences growing up in Compton.
Other artists who contributed to the album are Boogie Down Productions, Brand Nubian, Da Lench Mob, DJ Quik, Hi-Five, Juanita Stokes, Kenya Gruv, Mz Kilo, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, The Cutthroats, The Dangerous Crew, UGK and YG'z.
Upon its release, the Menace II Society soundtrack landed at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on July 27, 1993. It was certified platinum in October 1994.
