Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performed their new single "Downtown" last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and there was something for everybody during the performance.
Rahzel the godfather of noise started things off as only he can, with Macklemore taking the stage for the first verse. Then the legendary Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Caz and Melle Mel performed their part of the single...but it didn't end there. After Eric Nally sang the first chorus, all three legends returned to the stage to each spit a classic verse. Hip hop fans worldwide should appreciate that and appreciate that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had them on the song in the first place.
Big Daddy Kane summed it up best via his Instagram page a week ago:
"REAL TALK! I don't see one artist in the game that put Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee or Grandmaster Caz on their new song or let them perform on the VMA's (Including Me) but people wanna have a problem with @macklemore for paying homage to them. We don't acknowledge our own & get mad when another color does. Now if one of them passes, then we wanna post sh*t about them, say RIP and get t-shirts with their picture. FOH! Learn about your history and preserve it now. If not, SHUT THE F**K UP! To me, this is about real pioneers getting recognition in today's society."
