Living Legends alum Luckyiam has been working with his female counterpart, Lana, for years now. As Luck & Lana, it's a relationship that clearly works in and out of the studio. The California-based duo is currently working on a new full-length album, but in the meantime have released a video for the track "Bruh." The video was shot in Mammoth Lakes, California after Lucky had a vision of rapping and snowboarding, two things that don't normally go together, especially in hip-hop. Always the visionary, Lucky forged ahead and the couple pulled it off with ease. Produced by Sierra Light Productions and directed by Lucky, "Bruh" is a beautifully shot masterpiece. RAPstation (Kyle Eustice): Why did you decide to make a snowboarding music video?
Luckyiam: We had a show earlier this year in Mammoth Lakes, California. Tthey love us and we love them. I always wanted to shoot something in the snow. It's not your average hip-hop video location. Late night at the gym about a week before the show, I came up with the idea to do a winter action sports-based video for our song "BRUH" while we were up in Mammoth.
What about snowboarding do you think goes with the song?
Luckyiam: I just envisioned Lana coming down a run rapping her verse. The homie Cotter linked me with Sierra Light productions and the rest is history.
How did this song come together?
Lana: This was a ridiculous beat that Kill The Computer made and we knew we had to do something dope for it. Lucky told me I had to come extra tight. On the day we were ready to record, we got all set up for the session and I realized I forgot my pad that had some of my ideas so I drove for over an hour back home and back to the studio. When I got back, Lucky had started on the song and then I finally got to get in the booth, but we kept having to stop because Beyonce was rehearsing next door and her band was really rocking. I was like, 'Yo Bey, can you keep it down?' but only in my head because, ya know, Queen.
What do you like about making music with Lana? Do you ever get in crazy arguments over a song or video’s direction?
Luckyiam: I like making music with Lana because she is a pure songwriter talent. Beyond just writing raps. She smokes most doots I know lyrically and delivery wise. She understands song structure. And nah, we don't argue over songs or video direction. We vocalize opinions and 99 percent of the time, it's same page. So that's all G!
What's next?
We are still pushing this single and video. We are finishing up our new album. We are in pre-production for the next video "TEAM." Aside from that, we have random spot dates we are playing and Northern Nights Festival in July and we will be on the "BRUH, It's Lit" Tour mid-August into September.
