Chicago emcee, Canon, just dropped the third addition to his Loose Canon collective series, and the background behind it is simply breathtaking.
Born Aaron McCain, better known as Canon, the young rapper began making a name for himself rhyming over some araabMUZIK tunes scavenged from the internet. Since then his prominence would only continue to soar, as Canon served as hypeman under indie powerhouse rapper, Lecrae.
In 2012, Canon's solo venture debuted with the release of his first EP, Loose Canon, only to be followed by his premier album Mad Haven the following year,and the second addition to his Loose Canon series in 2014. His career as a soloist reaped much acclaim as reviews dubbed his debut EP an “instant hit with fans across the globe,” as well as landing a spot on the Billboard 200 with his recent projects.
The young artist's career took a literal, momentary slip when Canon inadvertently fell off a bridge as he was helping an injured man. The incident landed him a long while in the hospital, after suffering a concussion and a broken jaw, all this transpiring a mere three weeks following his recent marriage.
Challenged by such event, the Chicago emcee returns with his Loose Canon Volume 3 collective, narrating how “Grateful” he is for surviving the fall, relaying his new perspective towards life, and simply sending a positive message all throughout.
“The recovery was hard. I had only been married for three weeks before I had that accident,” relates Canon in an interview with HipHopDx, “My career was hard because that put everything to a stop, at a pause. I was at a standstill for about a year. And it hurt. It really hurt to have to be down and not able to do what I love... It hurt my pride, it hurt my heart, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, it hurt a lot of things and just to be able to get back to it was a blessing.”
The rapper continues, “But I had to work hard to get back to where I'm at now. But I'm grateful for where I'm at now. That's why I wrote a song about it, I wrote 'Grateful'. I am grateful that I'm able to get back. It cost me a lot to get here.”
The interview ends with Canon offering heartfelt words of encouragement, which is an also very evident theme overflowing throughout his latest release, “I just hope when people listen to the project, I hope people are reminded of their purpose, who God made them to be. I really hope that people consider different viewpoints than just what they believe or just what they understand.”
