Living Legends MC/producer Eligh, who often raps alongside fellow Legend The Grouch as G&E, is celebrating 17 years clean. The California native shared the news via Twitter on Thursday (October 13) with a post that read: "It’s been 17 years since I made the decision to go to rehab. 17 years since I drank a beer, or hit some weed, or smoked some heroin..I know who I am. Only through walking the road of recovery am I still here, celebrating another year clean. Grateful."
In a 2010 interview with RAPstation's Kyle Eustice, Eligh said: "I am proud of that shit. I will profess it to everybody. I like to lead by example. People are inspired by it. I just tell my experience and live it in front of people. Hopefully it influences people in a positive way.”
And it undoubtedly has. Over the last 12 years, Eligh has been a beacon of hope for so many with not just his music but also his art. The Grouch & Eligh released their latest album, "What Would Love Do," in 2021. One of the songs from the project, "Because," addresses his decision to leave the substances behind.
“I put down the weed ’cause I had to,” he raps. “Learned how to breathe ’cause I had to/Bleed out the pain ’cause I had to/Rework my brain ’cause I had to.” Check it out below.
