Not too long ago, Lil Wayne created quite an uproar among the Hip-hop scene with his social media posts hinting at the young rapper’s speculated retirement.
His previous rantings, which fans and followers connected to his long-term frustrations with Cash Money Records, transitions today into a rather “Grateful” tone, as the Weezy addressed the end of his Cash Money era, and announced a new start with his latest single, entitled… wait, nevermind.
Although the departure surfaces as a speculative matter at the current, Lil Wayne’s new track imposes itself simply as his gratefulness at a new beginning: “New chapter, move on, look back for what… They can’t put no more Weezy Baby out/ That’s that Cash Money vasectomy/ I still got love for my enemy/ ‘Cause I know its tough to be interesting/ I know it’s tough to be anything but grateful”.
And despite Birdman’s (Cash Money) plea at “mending his relationship with the rapper he still calls his son”, Wayne’s single suggests his contradicting thoughts: “You don’t see Stunna right next to me/ And I won’t see Stunna write checks for me”.
All speculations aside, Weezy is adamant on a new chapter for the young artist’s career. On the other hand, a new season may prove closer than we think—In the form of signing under Drake’s OVO label perhaps?
Drake supplied implicit evidence via Instagram, pointing at an upcoming collaboration between the two. The posts featured Weezy donning OVO-embedded apparel, with one caption reading “The gang’s all here”.
To support this claim, fans have alluded certain hooks from “Grateful” as Weezy responding to Drake’s “Know Yourself”, saying he’s “TTG, trained to go, time to get out”.
In any case, only time can tell where this new chapter holds for Lil Wayne and his fans. Regardless, Hip-hop enthusiasts can now find assurance, not only in the dismissal over Weezy’s retirement, but in the forthcoming projects from a refreshed and very “grateful” young artist.
