The eccentric rhymes of Kool Keith meet the enigmatic MF DOOM on the aptly-titled single, “Super Hero” catalogued on Keith's newt album under Mello Music, Featuring Magnetic.
“When I produced the track I pictured DOOM as a bunch of different Marvel characters,” said Keith, “Like two super heroic distinctive rappers with powers.”
Like a much-awaited crossover team-up from two iconic comic heroes, expectations were soaring as soon as the words “featuring MF DOOM” first came up, then the album dropped and we were met with sublime audio-induced catharsis from the two rappers. And just when things couldn't get any better, the music video debuts on The Fadershowcasing Kris Merc's direction, as well as visuals supplied by Aardman Nathan Love Animation Studio.
“I wanted to capture something that felt like a visual pop travesty,” said Merc pertaining to the video, “I wanted it to visually speak to the legacy of the artists, and Afrofuturism mixed with comic book concepts. I'm a fan of the unseen, and I was obsessed with the idea of using DOOM's mask and the iconography as a centralized point, as if time and space converged around these strange, sometimes magical tableaus and we were witnessing an ascension.”
Thanks to Aardman Nathan Love, Merc's imagination found no limitations, and the entire output, although lacking in narration perhaps, portrays somewhat of a catastrophic explosion of numerous comic concepts in a span of three minutes and thirty-seven seconds: Vivid colors emphasizing the fast-paced progression of infinite GIFS which range from the Nefarious MF DOOM mask, to Doc Ock surgeries, to astronauts dancing, to models wearing DOOM's mask, to an elvis wig—all of which, mind you, floating atop the rap magnum-opus single authored by Keith and Doom.
But perhaps I'm letting my enthusiasm get ahead of me, you can watch the video with the link below.
