It might surprise some to learn that Swedish producer iSHi, despite working with hip-hop artist Pusha T most recently, listens to a little bit of everything. In the past he’s worked with hip-hop artists like Tinie Tempah, Lupe Fiasco, and Pusha T, but he will tell you himself that he listens to all types of music. “I actually listen to classical music like Mozart pretty frequently. People probably expect me to listen to just hip-hop, and I definitely listen to it, but it’s not all I listen to. Music overall has been a big part of my life,” he says.
The producer and songwriter got his start early on, even attending music school where he first familiarized himself with the drums and later picked up on piano. The reason behind his choice to learn piano? He fell in love with a girl and wanted to impress her. “I began playing piano and I had a friend in school who knew all the Babyface songs.” To date, iSHi can play guitar as well, on top of playing both piano and drums.
Having a long list of artists he’s worked with, one person he’s hoping to work with in the future in Kanye West. “I love the way Kanye is always pushing boundaries, I respect him as an artist and a creator. He always pushes himself.” iSHi himself is an advocate for focusing on creativity, given that he admits to not just trying to create a hit, creating is truly what he enjoys.
If you’re new to iSHi or any of his work, be sure to follow him as he’s openly excited about his next single. Unable to give too many details, he’s hoping to have it released by this summer. As for him as an artist, he says, “I try to be fairly straightforward. I write songs, I play guitar, piano, and drums. I just want people to appreciate my music. I’m a musician, and I want people to understand that about me.”
