Eminem celebrated his 50th revolution around the sun on Monday (October 17) and par for the course, a myriad of his fans are paying tribute on social media to celebrate his legendary career.
Born Marshall Mathers in 1972, Eminem spent his formative years Detroit, Michigan but didn't have an easy life. His parents divorced when he was a child and he lived in poverty with his mother, often in predominately Black neighborhoods. After being introduced to Hip Hop by his Uncle Ronnie, Eminem set his sights on rapping and eventually released his debut EP, the "Slim Shady EP," in 1997. Interscope Records CEO Jimmy Iovine ultimately got his hands on it and played in for Dr. Dre—and the rest is history.
As one of the highest-selling musical acts of all time, Eminem collects accolades like antiques collect dust. In addition to selling more than 220 million albums worldwide, Slim Shady has won 15 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award for "Lose Yourself" and, most recently, a Creative Arts Emmy for the Dr. Dre-curated Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show—and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
His latest album, "Music To Be Murdered By," arrived in January 2020 and was followed by "Side B" in December 2020. The former debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with more than 279,000 total album-equivalent units in its opening week.
