Young Money recording artist raised quite an uproar with his recent twitter post which strongly implied his retirement.
“I AM NOW DEFENSELESS and mentally DEFEATED,” read Lil Wayne’s tweet, written sometime around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, “I leave gracefully and thankful, I [love] my fans but I’m done”.
Although the cause for Wayne’s post remains unclear, fans and followers speculate it involves Wayne’s failed attempts at deviating from his Cash Money Records contract.
On the contrary, another tweet posted after Weezy’s alleged retirement post suggested less erratic predictions. In what seemed like a response to the Hip-hop world’s current state of hysteria, the young rapper wrote “ain’t lookin for sympathy, just serenity” and then “I’m good y’all don’t trip”. It would then appear less like a retirement address, and more like an artist expressing his frustrations and simply finding means to vent.
Regardless of all speculations, a large number of posts and tweets have flooded social media, all of which exclaiming support and encouragement towards the Cash Money kid.
Chance the Rapper uplifted the young artist with a post reading, “I just wanna remind you that absolutely nothing and no one in this world can defeat you… Tell them devils back back”.
Others, such as Lupe Fiasco, expressed their gratitude at Wayne’s strong personality as an artist, describing him as “an inspiration who made being lyrical cool and pushed rappers in all sectors of the art to reach higher bar after bar”. Fiasco then followed with more encouraging words, “I hope you find some solace in the act of creating and continue to practice in some capacity the art which you helped progress”.
Other artists who have gathered around the topic of Wayne’s disheartening posts include Missy Elliot, FLYLO, 2 Chainz, Mack Maine, and more—all of which can be found on their individual twitter accounts.
Lil Wayne’s alleged departure would indeed be a thorn to the Hip-hop scene. Nevertheless, the combined effort towards reassurance presented by several artists, points out a significant quality inherent in the industry.
Amidst it all, Wayne’s seventeen-year-old daughter, Reginae Carter reassured fans and followers with a stark post, “Y’all know lil Wayne ain’t going nowehere”.
