Desiigner Turns XXL Freestyle Into Full Song

Desiigner has certainly made a name for himself this year.  Not only did he release “Panda,” the hit song that took hip hop by storm, but he also secured himself a spot on Kanye West's The Life of Pablo, and a position in the annual XXL Freshman Class.  On June 23rd, the “Panda” emcee dropped his XXL freestyle on YouTube, and it's safe to say that it generated an enormous amount of buzz.  The catchy, minor key, half-rapped and half-sung video quickly garnered more than two million views and generated a polarizing reaction from fans.  Some praised the Bed-Stuy rapper for taking things in a unique direction, however, some felt that the clip was incomprehensible, and, for lack of a better term, weird.

Now, Desiigner has turned the track into a full song, as a video featuring him and producer Mike Dean jamming out to a snippet of the track was released on Mike Dean's periscope.  The synth-laden song, called “Timmy Turner,” features a haunting electronic bassline underscored by a trap drum pattern.  At times, piano arpeggios and a high-pitched synthesizer, reminiscent of some g-funk production, can also be heard nestled in the background of the beat.   Although the song hasn't been released yet, Desiigner's debut mixtape, New English, is now available for purchase as a Tidal exclusive.
