Common continues to release tracks off of his upcoming, highly anticipated album Black America Again. His latest, the laid back, sensual "Red Wine," mixes equal parts socially conscious rap with a seductive R&B beat and hooks.
Featured artists Syd and Elena take turns with the hypnotic hooks and vocals on "Red Wine," while Common continues to bring the lyrically dense and politically awakened bars that have characterized all of the tracks fromBlack America Again released so far. While not as overtly political as songs like "Letter to the Free" or "The Day Women Took Over," Common still wears his activist reputation proudly on "Red Wine," calling himself "Tupac Deepak Chopra" while he delivers lines like "Used to be a hooper, now I’m a hoper/Thoughts I bring to life like an ultra sound/I’m bound to the underground/Breaking walls down for the black and brown/A activist is active now."
"Red Wine" is one of fifteen tracks that will appear on Black America Again, Common's eleventh studio album.Common previously released the album art, tracklist, and previewed several tracks from the album, including a few acoustic renditions of his new songs.
Black America Again will be released on iTunes on November 4th. One of the songs from the album, "Letter to the Free" is used in the documentary The 13th, which details how the oppression of slavery continued after the 13th amendment through policies like Jim Crow laws and modern mass incarceration, is currently available on Netflix. Common will also star in the upcoming action movie, John Wick 2.
