On the 19th of May, The New York City Borough of Brooklyn officially announced the commemoration of the day – 21st of May to the Notorious rapper, Christopher ‘Notorious B.I.G’ Wallace. Eric Adam, the President of the Brooklyn Borough declared the day saying “On his birthday, Brooklyn solutes on of its own. Who has never been forgotten as long as his music plays, his energy will remain." Adams then went on to comment on how the music of Notorious B.I.G brought the world’s attention to the Borough of Brooklyn, saying “Biggie put Brooklyn on the map”. In attendance of the day’s commemorated day was his daughter Ty’anna Wallace who was presented the citation, acknowledged the honor by saying “She knew her father loved Brooklyn, where he grew up, and she said he would have been proud of the honor”. Also in attendance was Lil Cease, Wallace’s friend and part of his Junior M.A.F.I.A. crew.
Long time friend and hip-hop icon Sean John Combs celebrated his label ‘Bad Boy Records’ 20th anniversary in honour of what would have been Notorious B.I.G’s 44th Birthday. The highly anticipated Bad Boy 20th Reunion concert was performed on Friday the 20th of May in Brooklyn, New York that lead into the early morning of Saturday the 21st – Christopher ‘The Notorious BIG’ Wallace Day. The concert took place at the Brooklyn Barclays Center with performances from artists such as Puff Daddy, Nas, Lil Kim, Faith Evens, French Montana, Mario Winans, Total, Carl Thomas, 112, Mary J Blige, Jay Z and a surprise appearance from rapper DMX. Tribute was delivered to Biggie as his voice was played during Puff Daddy’s opening song ‘Victory’.
