Childish Gambino's much-awaited album is finally out and available for online streaming!
Awaken, My Love! features eleven new tracks, including the single “Redbone” and the pre-released introductory track, “Me and your Mama”.
The latter was uploaded onto several sites a month prior today, providing a sneak peak for fans and what they ought expect, and if you weren't sold after that six-minute track with its roaring chorus of gospel choirs and it's intense build-up towards its much-warranted catharsis at the song's climax, then folks, you ain't seen nothing yet.
Childish Gambino's (Donald Glover to the film word) latest package delivers all-new content, nothing rushed and no reworkings on old records, the album comes gift-wrapped in 70's vintage funk and soul chocolate, most evident on songs like “The Night Me And Your Mama Met,” and “Have Some Love.”
Which, by the way, the latter song had me chanting along to that glorious refrain, “Have a word for your brother/ Have some time for one another/ Really love one another/ It's so hard to find, have a word,” and its lines from Gambino's poetic mind such as these, prove his new stuff isn't just icing on a cake, but the fulfilling experience of a A-grade dish: pleasing to the ears with its sound, food for the soul with its lyrics—Childish Gambino delivers, indeed.
Songs like “Redbone” however, scream out nothing more but tremendous passion as Gambino takes the mic, almost as if the rapper/singer was simply jamming out to every Prince hook his mind fell upon.
“Riot” does this magnificently too, showing Gambino knowing no limit to the very nature of vocal chords.
Bottom line, folks, Childish Gambino's third studio album is definitely a must-grab; check out Awaken, My Love! Made available on multiple streaming sites.
