Blood Orange Release Freetown Sound Three Days Early

Freetown Sound, the new Blood Orange album, had been slated for a July 1st release date, but in an unexpected twist of events, the follow up to 2013's Cupid Deluxe was released today.  While it's uncertain as to why Dev Hynes, the former member of dance-punk band Test Icicles who now produces music under the Blood Orange moniker, chose to release the album early, it is without a doubt available for listening on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services.  Physical copies of the album will be available for purchase on August 18th.

“I have just finished making an album about my life, my upbringing, being black in England, being black in America… my movement to this country at the age of 21, the same age that my mother moved from Guyana to London, and my father from Sierra Leone to London,” remarked Hynes in a press release for the album.

Freetown Sound, named after the the Sierra Leone capital where his father was born, marks a continuation of the the unique, multi-layered integration of R&B vibes and atmospheric production that have come to be associated with the Blood Orange name. A video for “Augustine,” the second track on the album, was released yesterday.  Freetown Sound includes collaborations with Carly Rae Jepsen, Zuri Marley, Debbie Harry, Nelly Furtado and others.
