BJ The Chicago Kid has worked with some of the biggest names in hip hop, including Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, and Schoolboy Q. But apparently that isn't enough for him, because BJ just announced that he's creating a track with one of music's biggest and most iconic legends: Marvin Gaye.
"Marvin Gaye is a huge inspiration to me,” BJ said in a press release. “The music he graced us with gave the world a little more beauty, and a lot more soul.” BJ is signed to Motown Records, the same label that Gaye released most of his earlier work through.
The brand new version of "What's Going On" will be a duet that blends new vocals from The Chicago Kid with archived recordings from the late Marvin Gaye. The track will be released on a vinyl single that also includes the original mono version "What's Going On." While Gaye ended his relationship with Motown Records on less than amicable terms, the new posthumous duet with BJ will be included in the "Motown Re-Imagined" EP, which is being released to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the company's founding.
