The 28th annual Soul Train Awards were broadcasted last night, and many hip hop's biggest artists, including Chance the Rapper and Fat Joe, took home several prestigious awards.
Chance the Rapper took home the "Best New Artist" award, while Fat Joe and Remy Ma took home the awards for "Rhythm and Bars" (formerly known as the "Best Hip Hop Song" award,) and "Best Collaboration" for their hit song, "All The Way Up." Aftermath artist Anderson .Paak also took home the "Certified Centric" Award.
While male artists dominated the hip hop awards, two female R&B artists were definitely the stars of the night: Beyonce took home the most awards that night for her blockbuster "Lemonade" visual album, including the awards for Album, Song, and Video of the Year. 90's R&B icon Brandy was also crowned "The Lady of Soul" at the award show, and she celebrated her lifetime of genre defining hits with a nine minute melody of some of her most memorable songs, including "Almost Doesn't Count" and "Talk About Us." Harlem rapper Ma$e joined Brandy on stage to perform their 1998 collaborative hit "Top of the World." Mase is currently readying his fourth study album, and first album in almost 12 years, which is scheduled to be released before the end of the year and features guest appearances from Beyonce, Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, and more.
