June 29th – Cali rapper Lil` B released his fifth album “I’m Gay (I`m Happy)” on Amalgam Digital Records, on this day in 2011.
The politically-charged set tackled issues as diverse as poverty, racism and the law.
A day after the release of “I’m Gay (I’m Happy)”, the Berkley MC offered it for free via a link on his Facebook page.
The album’s cover art is a reference to that of the 1976 set “I Want You” by Marvin Gaye.
The album’s title was meant as a show of support to the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual community and the challenges and discrimination they face in everyday life.
Many in the gay community applauded Lil’ B’s gesture of solidarity, while the rapper fought off death threats from others over the album’s title.
