June 28th – Boogie Down Productions release their third album, the classic “Ghetto Music – The Blueprint Of Hip-Hop” on Jive Records, on this day in 1989.

The certified gold album included BDP classics like “You Must Learn” and “Jack Of Spades”, which was featured in the 1988 United Artists film “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka”, with KRS-One performing it at the end of the film.

“Ghetto Music”, and BDP’s 1988 album “By All Means Necessary”, along with Public Enemy’s first two albums; “Yo! Bum Rush The Show” and “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back”, released in 1987 and 1988 respectively, marked the beginning of the “golden age of socially conscious rap.”
