August 9th - Rob Base And DJ E-Z Rock release their platinum selling debut album, “It Takes Two”, on Profile Records, on this day in 1988.
The album spawned one of the most famous singles in hip-hop history with the album’s title track, which borrowed heavily from the James Brown produced Lyn Collins single “Think (About It).”
The album also featured the smash-hit “Joy And Pain” which utilized a sample of the classic Frankie Beverly And Maze song of the same name.
The album also started a new genre called “Hip-House” with the track “Get On The Dance Floor”, whose principle sample was “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)” by The Jacksons.
