July 11th - Lil’ Kim was born Kimberly Denise Jones in Brooklyn , New York , on this day in 1975.
Lil’ Kim first came to prominence in the mid-90’s as a Biggie Smalls protégé in Junior M.A.F.I.A. , a group the late legendary m.c. discovered and promoted to platinum success. Lil’ Kim and Junior M.A.F.I.A. recorded and released their only album “Conspiracy” on Undeas Records.
“Conspiracy” produced 3 hit singles ; “Player’s Anthem” , “I Need You Tonight” and the smash “Get Money” , which sold a million copies in the U.S. alone. In 1996 , Lil’ Kim released her solo album “Hard Core” on Puff Daddy’s Bad Boy Records. “Hard Core” went double-platinum with 3 hit-singles ; “No Time” , “Crush On You” and “Not Tonight” whose remix featured Missy Elliott , Angie Martinez , Da Brat and Left Eye of TLC.
In 2002 , Lil’ Kim finally earned a Grammy Award for the hit-single “Lady Marmelade” , a 1970’s LaBelle hit. The cover version featuring Kim , Christina Aguilera , Pink , Mya and Missy Elliott who produced the track , was featured in the 2001 20th Century Fox film “Moulin Rouge”. “Lady Marmalade” went to no.1 in 50 different countries. Kim has also modeled for various fashion and pop culture companies like Candies , Versace , Iceberg and Baby Phat.
Kim has also appeared in a slew of films like “Zoolander” , “Juwaana Mann” , “You Got Served” and “Superhero Movie” Kim has appeared in several television programs as well like “Moesha” , “The Parkers” , “The Game” and “Dancing With The Stars”. Kim has released four albums to date as well as collaborating on recordings by other artists such as ; Mary J. Blige , 112 , The Lox , B2K , Lil’ Mo’ and Too $hort.
